An OK, entertaining show, rushed due to time limit
The show, limited to an hour and a half of playing time, was an entertaining show, but OK overall. Unavoidably, the show did feel rushed, but Silverstein still managed to get in some fun, danceworthy moments. The performance was good enough for any TFF fan, but to be completely honest, it was just an OK show overall. But one moment that really stood out from the sprint through the hits, was Silverstein's melancholy, plaintive tribute to Michael Jackson -- they slowed down Billie Jean and made it a melancholy, yet fitting, tribute to MJ.
If given more time to play, the show could have felt better paced, and the songs and musicians given more time to breathe. Interestingly, they seemed to give more heartfelt tribute than Smokey Robinson, who played at the OC Fair just two days earlier. I would like to see them when they're allowed to play, give space between songs. Silverstein played the expected set of hits -- Pale Shelter, Mad World, Memories Fade, Sowing the Seeds of Love, Shout, Woman in Chains (with the male backup singer playing the "woman"!), Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Raoul and the Kings of Spain, Head Over Heels, Break It Down Again -- and they definitely didn't disappoint. "Billie Jean" was the emotional highlight of the show. I could recommend this show to TFF fans, but others might find it a perfunctory run-through of mostly familiar songs -- but, again, I attribute most of that to the strict time limit placed on the group.
